AN UNSHAKABLE GLORY           2/24/08
One of the challenges many people have is that they want to keep many of the commandments found under the old and mix it with the New Law under Christ.  Let's contrast the two toay..

Hebrews 12: 18-29               POWERPOINT

1.  Mount Sinai - Temporal: Terrifying
     a.  Israel at the mountain - Ex 19: 16-20; Duet 4: 10-12; 5: 23-27
     b.  a literal mountain - could be touched, although with consequences
     c.  God's presence - burned with fire, blackness, obscure, concealed, dark, thick gloominess, a trumpet
          sound added to the terror, a Voice with no form(shrouded in darkness, moses feared Deut 9: 19

2.  Mount Zion - Spiritual
    
a.  The stronghold of Jebusites taken by David, became the symbol of God's presence.
          Psa 2:6; 48:2; Isa 2: 2-3; Heb 12:22; Rev 22: 1-4
     b.  Unto which you now have come 12: 22-24
     c.  City of the Living God, Heavenly Jerusalem, innumerable hosts of angels, Rev 5:11; Heb 1:4
     d.  Longed for by Abraham and others Heb 11:10, 13-16, and by Christians today Heb 13:14
     e.  A city we look forward to - Rev 3:12
     f.   the general assembly, church of the first born, registered in Heaven - the universal church, made
          up of all the saved Acts 2:47;  enjoy the rights of the firstborn, they are in the Book of Life
          Ph 4:3, Re 3:5
     g.  God is the judge of all - Heb 10: 30-31, Gen 18:25 Emphasized in the OT and the NT Nahum 1: 6-8
     h.  Spirits of just men made perfect - like those who died in faith Hebrews 11: 39-40
     i.   They were redeemed by the Blood of the Lamb!  Heb 9:15
          1.  the law made nothing perfect - Heb 7: 19
    j.   Jesus is the Mediator of a better covenant, a new covenant Heb 8:5
          1.  Mediator of a new (in time) covenant, and new (in kind) covenant
          2.  One Mediator - 1 Tim 2: 3-5
          3.  from above - John 8:23
   k.   The blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel -
          1.  Heb 11:3 - Abel still speaks through his example of faith
          2.  Heb 10: 11-14 - Jesus speaks more through his sacrifice
               a.  His sacrifice speaks of better things
                    1.  Remission of sins - Matt 26:28
                    2.  Redemption - Eph 1:7
                    3.  Peace - Rom 5: 1,9; Eph 2: 14-17

The things that were made were to be shaken, which were the things of the old order.  At His coming the will be shaken.  Tonight we're going to look at the shaken vs. the unshakable.
