A REAL "QUALITY OF LIFE"  - ZOE                             1/18/09
Everyone strives for a good quality of life.  The term "quality of life" can mean many different things.  To someone undergoing medical treatments a "quality of life" is feeling better.  To others an improved "quality of life" can mean no money worries or having a better car, house, etc.
Recently, Dr Tim Johnson was saying on a news broadcast that people are living longer but they want to with a good "quality of life."
To a Christian what is "life"?  What is a real "quality" life spiritually? That's our lesson for this morning.

1)  LIFE: A COMMON EXPRESSION WITH MULTIPLE MEANINGS
     A.  English - literally only one meaning
     B.  Greek - two meanings
           1.  Zoe - when viewed physically means "life intensive" .  Antithesis is death. (Rom 8:38)
                a.  Can mean lifetime (Lk 16:25), one that would love life (1 Pet 3: 10), broad sense (Act17:25)
                b.  Predominantly - the higher life in association with God (More in point 2)
           2.  Bios - "life extensive", duration, period of life, the means by which it is sustained, the manner..
                a.  Period or duration of life - 1 Pet 4:3
                b.  Manner of life in relation to moral conduct - 1 Tim 2:2
                c.  Means of livelihood, maintenance - Mark 12:44
           3.  Both words must be understood in context

2)  ZOE EXPRESSES ALL OF THE HIGHEST AND BEST THAT THE SAINTS POSSESS IN GOD
     A.  Those who triumph in life will eat of the tree of life - Rev 2:27
     B.  Faithful to death, a crown of life - Rev 2: 10
     C.  Written in the book of life - Rev 3:5
     D.  Drink from the fountain of the water of life - Rev 21:6
     E.  To the redeemed all things are given by God that pertain to life and godliness 1 Pet 1:3
     F.  Life is in God - Eph 4:18
     G.  Christians who are good, rich in good deeds, take hold on life that is life indeed 1 Tim 6:19
     E.  Life and immortality are brought to life through the gospel - 2 Tim 1:10
     F.  Christ is a priest made after the power of an endless life - Heb 7: 16

3)  DEATH AND SIN VS. LIFE AND HOLINESS
     A.  In sin, one is separated from the fountain of life, a miserable condition Eph 4:18
     B.  A sinner does not have life because he is separated from Him who lives
     C.  Christ is life - 1 Jno 1:2  He is absolutely Holy
     D.  Life and holiness are intertwined, they are inseparable.

4)  SUMMATION
    A.  Many denominations teach that your physical quality of life is a reflection of your spiritual quality.
          1.  Not doing well physically?  Your not living right!.. Is that the case?
    B.  What is a real "LIFE"?
    C.  It's a covenant relationship with our Savior!
    D.  Life has quality but its nature is determined by one's relation to him who is life.
