There are two things our salvation rests on: what God has done and our response to Him and His will.  In Ephesians we have insight into God's plan and what we must do in response to it.  This morning we look at what God has done.

1) BLESSED US WITH EVERY SPIRITUAL BLESSING - VS 3
    A.  Who is the source?  God and all are in Christ
    B.  Spiritual in nature vs 7  made full Col. 2: 9-10; salvation and glory 2 Tim 2: 10; eternal life
         1 John 5: 11-12..all spiritual blessings are in Christ and our relation to Him.

2) HE CHOSE US IN HIM: CHARACTER VS. 4
    A.  selected, picked out according to His purpose 9, 11
    B.  When? Before the foundation of the world, planned John 17:5, 1 Peter 1: 20-21
    C.  there is a new quality of life, in the positive sense - holy; and in the negative sense - no blemish,
         no moral defect

3) FOREORDAINED US UNTO ADOPTION, VS 5
    A.  predetermined, decided beforehand, through Christ
         1.  adoption in the sense of legal rights, sense that Paul used Rom 8: 15,23; 9:4, Gal 4:5; Eph 1:5
         2.  At the good pleasure of His will - God and God alone, it's His will, John 6:38; Heb 10:9-10
              a.  man must submit his will to His will

4) THE GRACE FREELY BESTOWED IN THE BELOVED  VS 6-7
    A.  Grace (favor) bestowed by God Titus 2: 11 in the beloved: in Christ 1 Pet 1: 10-12
    B.  We have redemption, forgiveness through His blood

5) MAKING KNOWN THE MYSTERY OF HIS WILL VS 8-10
    A.  Was a mystery, now the dispensation, stewardship, fullness of time, gospel dispensation
    B.  All planned in Christ, To sum up all things in Him, bring it under one head, Col 1: 15-17

6) IN HIM WE WERE MADE A HERITAGE  VS 11-12
    A.  God has already done it; to cast one's lot with, in a private possession sense  1 Pet 2: 9-10
         Titus 2: 14  According to God's eternal purpose, plan, for what end? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY

7) SEALED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT OF PROMISE VS 13-14
    A.  Sealed "to mean as a mark of identification" (A and G)
    B.  of promise - God's promise, recorded in Joel 2: 28-32 and given on Pentecost as God's seal to the
         messiahship of Christ  Acts 2
    C.  Now to us as a seal that we are His through His Spirit  Eph 4:30; Gal 4: 6-7
    D.  Earnest (down payment), guarantee of fulfillment of god's promised redemption

CONCLUSION  This is some of what God has done in His fulfillment of His eternal plan in Christ.
