We continue our series about congregations in the New Testament. This morning we look at the church in Rome.
1) PURPOSE
A. To stem the growing problem of the teachings of Judaizing teaches that had infected other congregations in Corinth, Galatia, etc. He wanted a pleasant visit to Rome so he prepared the way by writing this letter. 15: 22-33
B. The church there already had a good reputation 1: 8-12
C. Not much is known about the history of the congregation
D. Aquila and Priscilla - expelled from Rome, met Paul and wound up returning there Acts 18: 1-2; 18-26; 1 Cor 16;19; 16: 3-5
E. Several churches, possibly, in the area 16: 5, 14, 15
F. Written from Corinth - due to indications of Gaius, Erastus and Phoebe

A. Sin - the need for salvation - 3: 9-20

B. What is a provision for salvation? FAITH 3:21- 4:25
C. What is a result of salvation? FREEDOM
1. wrath - 5: 1 - 21
2. sin - 6: 1 - 23
3. law - 7: 1 - 25
4. death - 8: 1 - 39
D. Salvation is for all! 9:1 - 11:36
4) THE RESULT
A. A transformed life - conduct - 12: 1 - 21
1. Civil authority - 13: 1 - 7
2. Our fellow man - 13: 8 - 14
3. Those that are weak - 14: 1 - 15:13
5) APPLICATION - we need to have transformed lives today as Christians. We have to be aware of our conduct, we have to deal with civil authority, we have to interact with our fellow man, and there are those who are weak in 2009. WE NEED salvation today!
