Today was examine God's unfathomable grace and love for us!
1) THE SACRIFICE - HEB 9: 26-28
A. The sacrifice was all-sufficient in that Christ needed to sacrifice Himself only once. He came to put away sin once and for all. In the "last days" or the "end of all ages" Heb 1:2
B. Just as man only dies once, so Jesus needed to be for sin only once.
2) THE ATONING BLOOD - HEB 9:14
A. The blood of animals was able to purify the flesh of an unclean person, but the blood of Christ is able to purge the conscience of dead works to serve the living God. Animal sacrifices could not do this Heb 9: 9-10; 10: 1-2.
B. Jesus sacrifice was once and for all and eternal.
3) THE INTERCESSION - HEB 7: 21-28
A. What do we know about Levitical priests? When one died, another would take his place. But, Jesus "ever lives" to make intercession for us. He came according to the power of an endless life, Heb 7: 16. He cold do what the Law could not do, make one "perfect", that is holy, or blameless. Col 1: 21-22.
B. His perfect character is shown in 26 and 27.
C. Levitical priests had to sacrifice daily for their own sins and the sins of the people. What was the problem? Animal sacrifices were unable to make one perfect and cleanse the conscience of sin. Heb 10: 1-4
D. Jesus' sacrifice was superior..Heb 9: 11-15; 10: 11-14. He is most fitting to be our High Priest, Heb 2: 17-18; 4: 14-16; 5: 8-9.
4) THE PROPHET WHO TEACHES - HEB 1: 1-2; ACTS 3: 22-23
A. God has spoken to us by His Son!
B. He is an excellent Spokesman - (Tonight we are going to look at the excellence of the Son!)
C. In Acts there is reference to the One who would came that was prophesied in the O.T. Deut 18: 15;18-19
D. This One wold be raised up from their own brethren, whom they should hear in all things. Those who would not hear the Prophet would be utterly destroyed from among the people.
E. God sent is servant Jesus to bless them, having raised Him up to turn everyone away from their iniquities.
5) THE KING WHO RULES - 1 TIM 6: 15
6) THE JUDGE WHO REWARDS - MATT 25:31-46
A. The disciples, in the first part of the book, were encouraged to be watchful and productive. (1-30)
B. As in the book of Joel, the coming of the Day of the Lord is predicted.
C. In the Olivet discourse, Jesus foretold the coming of the Day, 24: 1-51.
D. A judgment of the nations is a common theme in the scriptures. Jesus may be using the same theme here. Isa 10: 5-7; 12-14; 24-26. Amos 1: 3,6,9, 11,13
E. There will be a judgment and there are places prepared for after the judgment.
7) THE HOPE OF HEAVEN - 1 COR 15: 19; 1 PET.1: 3-5
A. We have a living hope! The degree of hope we have is directly related to the inheritance we have.
1. Incorruptible, undefiled, does not fade away and is reserved in heaven.
B. Being "kept" involves 2 things a. the Power of God b. our faith
