To A God-fearing Christian there is a knowledge of the judgment of the Lord. The Word clearly teaches this meeting between God and man.
Jesus talked about this..
Matt 12: 36-41 - "every idle word...."John 5:22 ..."John 12: 48 -
Paul also spoke about this..
Acts: 17: 30-31 - "and the times of this ignorance..."2 Cor 5: 10 - "for we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ.."2 Tim 4: 1,2 - "I solemnly charge you"..."Heb 9:27 - "And it is appointed.."
Peter and John also spoke about this...
2 Pet 2:9 - "The Lord knows how to.."
Rev 20:11-13 - "then I saw a great white throne.."
A. FACTS ABOUT THE JUDGMENT
1. Romans 14: 10b, 12; Matt 12:36 - All will be there - my relatives, Adolph Hitler, all the popes
2. All will give an account - Acts 17: 31; 2 Cor 5: 10
3. We are to be judged by the Word - John 12:48; Rev 20: 11-13
4. We need to get ready for it - 2 Cor 5: 10; Mat 12: 36-41
B WHAT SOME WILL SAY
1. We get a glimpse of the conversation - Matt 7: 22,23
a. Everyone wants to think they are saved - 70% of the people in the US feel that way (Ladies Home Journal)
b. When we think of the lost we often think of the murderers, adulterers, liars, thieves, lovers of money, etc. There's no indication that these were that type. What were they?
1. Religious people who followed Christ - 7:22 2. Miracle workers (or thought they were)
3. Workers in His name - yet these were LOST
a. What does this say? We can be religious and lost, we can work in thename of Jesus and be lost, and we think we can work miracles and be lost.
c. People are deceived into thinking they are saved Jesus said in Matt 7:15 and Paul said in 2 Cor 11: 13-15
d. Were these people sincere? Yes. People of the world need to realize that someone holding a Bible or wearing a robe does not make them a Godly person!
C. WHY THEY WERE LOST
1. Mt 7: 21, 24-27 - between the first scripture and the last four quoted we find the conversation between the people and Christ on that great day. There is no question as to why they were lost!
2. It's not enough to call Him Lord, Lord. It's not enough to do wonderful works in His name. We must do His will.
3. (Tell the story of the son) One who changes , adds to, takes from or substitutes for the will of the Lord will have to answer on that great day for not doing the will of the Lord. Gal 1:7-10; 1 Cor 4:6; Rev 22: 1,19
D. JUDGED BY THE WORDS OF JESUS
1. John 12: 48-50 - does this mean only the red letter words of Jesus, those personally spoken by Jesus shall be our judge? We also abide by the teaching of the apostles. John 14:26; John 16:13; John15:20
E. WHAT WILL WE SAY AT THE JUDGMENT?
1. 1 John 5:3 - "for this is the love of God that we keep His commandments"
2. If you fail to do the will of the Father what will you and I say at the judgment?
What everyone should want to hear is "well done thou good and faithful servant."
