LEADERSHIP IN CHRIST                                                     8/3/08
When someone mentions the word leadership the thought of a big, important person comes to mind.  We talk about leaders in our country, leaders in a company, etc. , but in reality, as Christians, we should all be leaders.  How so?  Let's look at one lie in particular as a great example to all.  That person is Joshua.

1)  WITH FAITH PLACE YOUR TRUST IN GOD
     a.  Numbers 13: 25-28
          1.  10 demonstrated their lack of faith - How easy is it to follow the crowd? Number 14: 6-9
          2.  Leadership is doing the right thing in spite of what everyone else says.
          3.  Look at the example of Jericho - faith personified.  Hebrews 11:30; Joshua 6: 1ff
          4.  Jesus said, "not my will but thy will be done" Mt 26:41
          5.  Jesus prayed often - many examples

2)  HUMBLE SPIRIT
      a.  First he was willing to follow, listen, learn, serve  Exodus 24: 13, 33:11
      b.  served as Moses's assistant, servant
      c.  Leaders truly understand that.
      d.  But, the desire to serve stays with an individual Joshua 5: 13-15, he was not egotistical, arrogant, the position didn't go his head, though magnified by the Lord  Joshua 3: 7; 4' 12FF
      e.  Humble heart- Psa 25: 9, 12, Luke 8:15

3)  CHRISTIAN LEADERS UNDERSTAND THAT GOD'S WORD IS THE STANDARD
      a.  Joshua 1:7 - total fulfillment of the Law from Moses was imperitave ; to do so required meditation on a continual basis. Joshua 1:8
     b.  He was true to the Word.  Joshua 1: 12-15; Joshua 8: 30-35; Joshu 23:6, 14-16
     c.  You have to be willing to hear it!
Acts 17:11
     d.  Complete obedience - Eph 6:6; Col 3:23

4)  HE PRAYED
     a.  Ai - Joshua 7: 6-9; 10: 9-14  - he prayed for his people, in the midst of warfare, etc.
     b.  He looked to Jehovah for help, so many think they can do it on their own
     c.  How often do we Jesus praying

5)  GOD FIRST, BUSINESS SECOND

a.  How often do people think after I get all my other stuff done, and If I have a little extra time I'll study the Bible.  " As soon as this show's over"
     b.  Joshua was fighting and stopped to pray - Joshua 8: 30-35; Deut 27-28
          1.  Even thought it gave his opponents some breathing room Joshua still understood the importance of prayer.  What if he had said, " I'll pray if I have the time,  I'm too busy fighting right now"
c.. Joshua 24: 14-15  - a famous passage that showed where his heart was, and that attitude made a big impression on others

A simple lesson about a Godly man and characteristics that showed him to be a great leader.
