NORTHSIDE CHURCH OF CHRIST

FORT LAUDERDALE, FLORIDA

Principles of Righteousness - Part One                        8/8/10
James Keszkowsky - preacher
A. The Principle of Faith: Part One
Hebrews 11:1 "the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen"
     2 Cor 5:7
We must learn to walk by faith.
     John 20:26-31
     Don't be like Thomas
1 Pet 1:8 - We should be like these Christians

B.  One person of Faith: Noah
     Gen 6:8
Noah found favor in the sight of the Lord
     Why?
They believed and trusted in God
     Gen 6:5
All the men were wicked and held evil thoughts.
Heb 11:7 - Faith in God moved Noah to build the ark
2 Peter 2:5 - Noah preached but they refused God

C.  How Does faith Move Us Today?
      Acts 5:29
Peter said we ought to obey God rather than men
      2 Pet 3: 3-7
Evil men today would like to forget God destroyed the earth and they laugh at the idea that God will
destroy the earth again with fire.

D.  Reasons for Being on the Lord's Side
      Romans 8:31
Simply put "if God be for us, who can be against us?"
Remember only 8 people were saved from drowning when God brought the flood upon the earth
     1 Pet 3: 20-21
Noah was saved by water like we are today
     Mark 16:16
"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved"

E.  Principle two: Trust That Sustains
Definition of trust - " a belief in the honesty, truth, justice, or power of, to have confidence or faith in..to
allow to go somewhere or do something without misgiving or fear of consequences."
We must trust in the Lord with all our heart and soul

F.   Abraham: An example of trust
      Heb 11: 15-16
Abraham trusted god and left his country because he knew that trusting in God would lead him to a better
      country.
Are we willing to trust in God?
Would you trust him enough to leave this country if you were told to do so to spread God's Word?

G.  Abraham trusted God's Promise
     Gen 17: 15-19
     Gen 18: 9-15
God promised Abraham and Sarah a son of their own at their old age.
     Gen 21: 1-5
     God always keeps His promises
     Gen 22: 1-14
Abraham trusted God when He was tested.

H.  Faith Made Perfect Through
     Obedience
     Gen 15:6
Abraham believed God and was justified by works when he did god's Will
     What about today?
Today we are justified by works and our faith is made perfect when we obey the Lord and do His will.

I.   Principle 3: Patience that Endures
     Matt 10:22
The one who endures to the end will be saved.
Definition of Patience: " a willingness to put with waiting, pain, trouble, etc.; calm endurance without
     complaining or losing self control."

J.   Job: Our great example of patience
     Job 1:22
Job is a servant who feared God and turned away from evil
God was confident in Job and allowed Satan to test Job
Job endured his trials to the very end
We need to be like Job

K.  What do we get from Job?
      1.  Rom 8:28
We do not know what God has in store for us, and yet we must believe that God will make all things work
for our good if we trust Him and love Him.
       2.  1 Cor 10:13
God did not put more on Job than he could stand and the Lord will never allow us to be tempted more than
       we are able to bear.
        - Why be patient?
        - Ecc 7:8
        - "the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit
        -  Job 42:12
        -  The Lord gave back to Job twice as many possessions as he lost
        -  Matt 29:19
        -  Jesus will pay us back a hundred fold for all we may lose in following Him
        -  The Crown of Life
        -  James 1:12
        -  What shall we receive as a Christian?
        -  Answer: The Crown of Life
        -  To receive this crown, one must hear God's word, believe that Jesus is the Son of God. repent from the
ways of sin, Confess, and be baptized in the watery grave of baptism.  And if you walk in the new life
you too are promised that crown of life.  Why not come as we stand and sing?
