To many in the world Satan is a mythological figure that is not real but simply is a representation of evil.  We believe the Bible teaches otherwise.  Our text this morning is 1 Peter 5: 6-11.

1. HIS ORIGIN
    a.  Led angels in rebellion - 2 Pet 2:4, Jude 6
    b.  Sinned from the beginning, a murderer 1 John 3:8, John 8: 44
    c.  Apparently a created being - Col 1: 15-17, No question as to what his end will be Matt 25:41

2.  HE HAS A PERSONALITY
    a.  He thinks, speaks and acts, but his power is limited by God Job 1,2
    b.  Disputed with Michael Jude 9
    c.  Discuss his temptation of Jesus - Mt 4
    d.  Gen 3: 1-5  approached Eve from without
    e.  Discussion by Jesus of Satan John 8:44, Paul, Acts 13:10

3.  METHOD OF OPERATION
    a.  Crafty - 2 Corinthians 11: 2-5  (discuss the method of a serpent)
    b.  Revealed by passing himself as an angel of light - 2 Cor. 11: 14-15, but is also a roaring lion
    c.  Revelation, symbolically he is a poilitical force and a religious force Rev. 13: 1-18
     
4.  THE CONFLICT
   a.  Began in Eden, continued on Isa 53: 12, Matt 12:29, Luke 11: 21-22, the true prince of this world, John 12:31, 14:30, 16:11
   b.  Defeated at the cross - Col 2: 14-15,  Heb 2:14, Rev 1:17-18
   c.  The conflict and victory in the blood of Christ - Rev 12: 7-11

5  OUR ABILITY TO WITHSTAND
   a.  Resist him - James 4: 7-8, 1 John5:4 How? put on the whole armor - Eph 6: 13-15
   b.  How can we be sustained?  By the grace of God - 1 Pet 5:10, 1 Cor 10:13
   c.  We have a promise - Acts 2:39, 1 Thess 2:12, 2 Thess 2:14, 2 Tim 1: 10

Conclusion - WE CAN OVERCOME SATAN!
