Momentum is a term that can be applied to many areas of life.  It's used in physics to describe physical characteristcs of things in motion.  It's used in business to show how things can speed up or slow down, and of course for our purposes, spiritually speaking, momentum can describe a variety of things.

1)  A Snowball Type Effect
     a.  Have you ever made a snowman?  You start with a small little ball of snow and roll it.  when you do it
          keeps getting larger.  An avalanche that can start with a relatively small amount of snow can grow into
          a deadly force..
     b.  Spiritually speaking there are numerous passages that show the same principle.
          1.  Colossians 3: 8 - notice the progression downward...

2)  Some Good Examples
     a.  Acts 2: 38 - 47  -  notice how the early church kept growing
     b.  Acts 5: 12 - 16 
     c.  The Bible gives many examples of good that was done and a momentum was created.  Jesus attracted
          so many followers that the crowds would be overwhelming..
     d.  Doing good can have a positive effect with momentum

3)  Negative Examples - But Need To Be Examined
     a.  We should love the Truth - John 8: 32, but look at what can happen when we don't study the Word
          as we should (Matthew 22: 29)  This can lead to a working of error (2 Thessalonians 2: 10 - 12)
     b.  We should not be slack in our attendance - The early Christians showed tremendous devotion(Acts 2:42)
          But notice what can happen (Hebrews 10: 25ff)
     c.  Our goal is to have a good conscience, doing God's Will - (1 Timothy 1: 5) Look what happens, though,
          when we allow our consciences to become seared ( 1 Timothy 4: 1 - 2)
     d.  Practicing lying begets more lying - In the first place we should Not lie ( Colossians 3: 9), but look what
          can happen when we do ( Matthew 26: 69 - 75)
     e.  Look where hatred can end up! (1 John 3: 11 - 15)
     f.   A classic example of unbridled lust (2 Samuel 11: 2 - 4, Matthew 5: 28)
    g.  Where can the unbridled tongue lead? (James 3: 6, 4: 11, 3 John 10)

Conclusion - The snowball/momentum effect is can be used for good or it can destroy us.  The choice is obvious!
