Yesterday afternoon, professional football teams cut the remaining players trying out to make the squads to get to the mandated level of 53 players for each team. Normally, my wife and I wouldn't pay much attention to this, but this year the Miami Dolphins drafted a young man from the same little high school we attended in Ohio and we were hoping he would make it. I was part of the planning committee in 1966 that started the football program and my wife was a cheerleader. But, unfortunately, he didn't make the final cut.
What, do you ask, has this to do with the Word of God? Football teams have criteria that dictate the skills needed to be a professional player. If you fall short, you won't make it. If Christians fall short in certain areas they won't be saved. Let's talk about those this morning.
1) THERE IS A SALVATION READY TO REVEALED AT THE LAST DAY - 1 Pet 1:5. This salvation is in heaven
1 Pet 1: 13-17. The admonition is for pilgrims to be careful how to walk. There are many problems that those travelers can encounter. Which of those sojourners will be saved? We will examine this with the objective of seeing who will NOT be saved.
2) IT IS CLEAR SOME WILL NOT BE SAVED - 2 Pet 2: 20-22, 1 Cor 10:12
3) THE UNFRUITFUL WILL NOT BE SAVED - John 5: 1-8
4) THE MATERIALLY MINDED WILL NOT BE SAVED - Matt 13:22
5) THE FAINTHEARTED WILL NOT BE SAVED - Matt 13:21
6) THE BLINDED WILL NOT BE SAVED - 2 Pet 1:9-10; Matt 15;14
7) THE BAD EXAMPLES WILL NOT BE SAVED - Matt 15: 14; 2Pet 2:1-5
8) THE WORLDLY WILL NOT BE SAVED - 1 Cor 9:27; 1 Cor 10: 6-8; Gal 5: 19-20; Eph 5:11
9) THE MURMURERS WILL NOT BE SAVED - 1 Cor10:10
10) THE NEGLIGENT WILL NOT BE SAVED - Heb 2: 1-3
11) THOSE WHO DEPART FROM THE FAITH WILL NOT BE SAVED - Jas 5: 19-20
12) BUT THANKS BE TO GOD SOME CHRISTIANS WILL BE SAVED! - 1 Pet 1:5
CONCLUSION: As we often say, we need to make regular self-examinations to make sure we don't fall into any of these categories.
