This morning our subject is a man of influence found in the Old Testament, but one that is not often studied. King Hezekiah reigned long ago, but his influence in different areas bears examining today.
1) Period Of Time
a) 1095 BC - 975 BC This time period which encompasses 1 Samuel 9 to 1Kings11 tells of the reigns
in a United Kingdom of Saul, David and Solomon
b) 975 BC to 722 BC This 253 year time period tells of a "Divided Kingdom" from 1 Kings 12 - 2 Kings 20.
1. Northern Kingdom (Israel) - 19 reigned
2. Southern Kingdom (Judah) - 13 reigned
a. Hezekiah was number 13 - in spite of all the evil that preceeded him, he was good!
2) His Greatness Was NOT Because OF....
a) Family Background, History ..his father, Ahaz, was NOT a good man - 2 Kings 16: 2-4
b) Environment, Surroundings - Ezekiel 18: 10-13 - there were not good examples he could follow
c) Children - 2 Kings 21: 1-7 It's be said that God has no grandchildren. Being an obedient child of
automatically doesn't transfer to your children. Solomon had Rehoboam, Hezekiah had Manasseh and
Josiah had Jeconiah 2. GODLINESS IS NOT INHERITABLE!
d) Age - 2 Kings 18:2 He was a young man, so many would have scoffed...
e) Pride - 2 Kings 20: 14-19 He could have felt very arrogant being so young and yet a king!
3) He Was Great Because Of
a) He did what was right - 2 Kings 18:3
b) Uncompromising - 2 Kings 18:4
c) He was a man of action - 2 Chronicles 29:3
d) Placed his trust in Jehovah - 2 Kings 18:5
e) Clave to the Lord - 2 Kings 18:6
f) Kept God's Law - 2 Kings 18: 6
g) A man of prayer - 2 Kings 19: 14-19
