The Grace of God (Salvation) - 2/18/07
The subject of grace is certainly one of the most wonderful yet misunderstood subjects in the Bible. Our intention this morning is to examine the meaning of the word grace and more specifically the grace of God that the book of Titus says brings salvation.
A) Grace Defined
1. a simple definition is mercy
2. can have a variety of meanings in the Bible
a. can refer to a man showing mercy - 2 Corinthians 8: 6 - 7, 19
b. God's grace can refer to blessing Christians, but not a direct referral to salvation - 2 Peter 3: 18
Ephesians 3: 8; Galatians 2: 9
c. Our emphasis today is salvation - Titus 2: 11 - 12, 3:7; Ephesians 2: 5 - 8; 2 Thessalonians 2: 16
B) Saving Grace - How?
1. First, it's important to remember that not all will be saved - Matthew 7: 13 - 14
2. But, how does it save? Through the blood of Christ - Ephesians 1: 7; Hebrews 2: 9
3. How was it made known? Through the giving of His Son - Ephesians 2: 4 - 9, and revealed through
the gospel - Titus 2: 11 - 12; the word of His grace - Acts 20: 32
4. truth and grace are tied together repeatedly in the gospel - Colossians 1: 5 -6; Galatians 1: 6
Only through teaching the word can man know God's grace.
5. Therefore, God has a saving plan for man to reach that blood by His grace. This is not through man's
own schemes or plans
6. Acts 18: 27; Romans 5: 1 - 2, Ephesians 2: 8 - man is saved by and through faith. Through what means?
Romans 10: 7
C) When One Becomes A Christian He Can Do Several Things With Grace
1. Strong in it - 2 Timothy 2: 2
2. Grow - 2 Peter 3: 18
3. Stand in it - I Peter 5: 12
4. Set it aside - Galatians 2: 21
5. Completely fall from it - Galatians 5: 4
6. Remember, grace is taught and learned- Titus 2: 11-12
